The Colorado Rapids, adidas, and Dick's Sporting Goods are providing boys and girls the opportunity to improve their soccer skills with the Rapids Soccer Academy Camps.

 

The Rapids Academy was created by the Rapids First Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development John Murphy and all camps are run exclusively by the Rapids players and coaches. The camps are for boys and girls ages 5-18 years and will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

 

 

 

 

 

 

3rd ANNUAL KICKIN' KIDS CAMP

This popular program attracted over 120 kids in 2007 and is an introductory program focusing on soccer and fun. The camp offers four hours of instruction where participants become familiar with the game of soccer and learn the basic skills needed at the beginner level. The emphasis is for all participants to enjoy the game and each other in a pressure free environment where they play soccer games and activities.

The Rapids Striker Camp is a unique program that focuses on the most important part of the game: creating chances and scoring goals. This is not just for forwards; it is for any player who wants to improve their attacking skills. Small group sessions are set up to challenge individuals in repetitive game situations where attacking players need to excel: long distance shooting, combination play, 1v1’s, turning and shooting in the box, crossing and finishing, lone striker movement, twin striker movement and three striker movement. Come to the 2008 Rapids Striker Camp and you will see an improvement in your attacking play!

4th ANNUAL DEVELOPMENT CAMP

Assistant Colorado Rapids Coach and Rapids Academy Director John Murphy along with Rapids players are offering the 3rd Annual COLORADO RAPIDS DEVELOPMENT CAMP. This camp offers instruction where participants are grouped by age and ability, with the emphasis on individual development. INTERACTION AND COACHING INSTRUCTION BY RAPIDS PLAYERS AND COACHES increases learning by giving each individual the very best examples of what it takes to be a quality soccer player, dependable teammate and good citizen.

This first year program is for the motivated player who wants to live and breathe the full-time professional environment. Over the three-day Mini-Camp, boys will receive instruction from professional players and coaches at the state of the art Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Specialized training sessions and small-sided games will complement classroom chalk talks that will address topics such as the growing pro game as well as the college recruiting process. The weekend will be based around a Rapids home match, giving each participant the chance to see the Rapids in action. 2nd ANNUAL TEAM CAMP

The 2nd annual COLORADO RAPIDS TEAM CAMP provides a unique opportunity for high school boys' teams to train and play together before the upcoming high school season. The format, including daily training sessions run by the Rapids Academy Staff focuses on specifics aspects for that particular team. Sessions are complimented by small-sided games and 11-a-side matches each evening. A round-robin tournament format will be held with the two finalists playing the championship game before a Rapids match! ONLY TEN TEAMS WILL BE ACCEPTED. 4th ANNUAL GOALKEEPER CAMP

The 4th annual COLORADO RAPIDS GOALKEEPER CAMP uses a training format created by goalkeeper specialist and Rapids Academy Director John Murphy that has brought out the best in professional goalkeepers in MLS and internationally. This six week course, led by Rapids goalkeepers, is the perfect system for goalkeepers who want to train and improve their skills in preparation for the upcoming fall season. The Rapids Goalkeeper Camp will be split into two (2) distinct groups focusing on age appropriate training: youth camp for boys and girls ages 8-12 and pre-season camp for boys and girls ages 13-17.

The just-developed Rapids Mother’s Day and Father’s Day camps are a one-of-a-kind opportunity for soccer moms and dads to learn with their kids (must be at least 5 years old) from Rapids players and coaches. Drills and fun games are organized for everyone to enjoy themselves and pick up new skills. A pre-game party at the stadium will prepare campers for a Rapids home game!

 

Instruction will take place in a classroom-like setting while kids participate in a clinic with Rapids players. Interaction between moms and kids will take place before the conclusion of the camp. The Father’s Day Camp will be held prior to the Rapids home game on June 21, 2008. Instruction will take place for three hours prior to the game.

COLORADO RAPIDS SUMMIT SELECT

The Summit Select training program is an invitation-only supplemental program to identify and further develop talented and motivated youth players. The 2008 spring program is designed for instruction within small-sided and group games and exercises run by the Rapids players and coaches. Invitation will be based upon evaluations from the 2007 Development Camp and/or Training Center.

The application deadline for scholarships for the 2008 Rapids Academy Camps was February 29th, 2008 and the Academy is no longer accepting applications.
