Defending Champion Rapids Reserves Defeat Fire Reserves 1-0
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, April 16, 2007) – The Colorado Rapids Reserves won the first game this season 1-0 against the Chicago Fire Reserves on a windy day at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Playing with the wind at their backs in the first half the Rapids Reserves carried the play but could not come away with a goal.
The best opportunity came from Jovan Kirovski. In the 44th minute he took a 20-yard shot that beat Fire Reserves’ goalkeeper Jon Busch but was kept out of the net by the crossbar.
After the break the Rapids Reserves stepped up the pressure and pinned Chicago in their own end. Substitute Nick LaBrocca had a shot that was only save by the outstretched foot of Busch in the 48th minute.
Just one minute later, Jordan Harvey scored the game’s only goal. Nick LaBrocca found Jacob Peterson on the right. After slipping behind the Fire Reserves’ back line Peterson cut the ball back to a streaking Harvey who netted his first goal of the season.
The Rapids Reserves next game will be played Tuesday, May 1 when they hit the road and play the Real Salt Lake Reserves in Utah.
