COLORADO RAPIDS AWARD WINNERS
The following awards are given out annually at the conclusion of the regular season
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Awarded to the Rapids’ MVP from the season. Currently decided by a vote of Rapids players and assistant coaches.
ALL-TIME MOST VALUABLE PLAYER WINNERS
GOLDEN BOOT
Awarded to the Rapids’ leading scorer, determined by number of goals. From 1996-2004, was considered a “Scoring Champion” award, given to the team leader in Points (2 points per goal, 1 point per assist). Since 2007, the first tiebreaker is assists.
HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR
Awarded to the player who gives the most to the community, as determined by Rapids Community Relations and Kroenke Sports Charities.
ALL-TIME HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR WINNERS
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Awarded to the Rapids’ top defensive player, which includes goalkeepers, defenders and defensive midfielders. Currently decided by a vote of Rapids players and assistant coaches.
ALL-TIME DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR WINNERS
DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Awarded to the player who gives the most to the Rapids’ Development Academy teams, determined by Rapids technical staff.
ALL-TIME DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PLAYER OF THE YEAR WINNERS
YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR (new 2012)
Awarded to the Rapids’ top young player, determined by a vote of Rapids players and assistant coaches. Winner must be under 24 years of age through the majority of the regular season.
FAN FAVORITE AWARD (new 2012)
Determined by Colorado Rapids fans in an online vote at the end of the regular season.
