After Saturday night’s 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy and a short amount of sleep, Rapids staffers participated on Sunday morning in the Evergreen Sprint Triathlon, entering five relay teams in the event. Team Rapids 1 was able to capture the victory in the relay division, and the roughly 30 Rapids employees, friends and family in burgundy enjoyed the early-morning festivities.
Team Rapids 1, who also won the Relay division in 2012, consisted of President Tim Hinchey swimming, Director of Marketing & Fan Development Wayne Brant biking, and Director of Media Relations David Lindholm running. Their time of 1:19:56 was about two minutes ahead of a strong co-ed relay team in second place.
Team Rapids 3 crossed the line in 1:47:07, Rapids 2 in 1:55:23, and Rapids 5 in 2:09:20. Somehow, the running leg for the co-ed Team Rapids 4 did not get counted by the chip timer, though the team was on pace to finish under 1:30:00. Regardless of the final time, everyone enjoyed the event, and Rapids Street Team also handed out prizes and giveaways to many participants. The overall individual winners all collected Rapids tickets as part of their prizes.
The other Rapids employees participating on Sunday included: Senior Premium Sales Executive Jordan Allerding, Chief Revenue Officer David Burke, Premium Sales and Service Manager Makenzie Crow, Ticket Service and Marketing Coordinator Christa Dellebovi, Fundraising Coordinator for Kroenke Sports Charities Heather Garcia, Marketing Coordinator Chelsea Hedrick, Manager of Ticket Sales Emily Kilcoyne, and Rapids Academy Manager Gordon Smith.
This year’s marketing campaign emphasizes our relationship with the state of Colorado. In addition to our new alternate uniforms, which feature the distinctive blue, red and yellow of the Colorado flag, our 2013 marketing campaign is centered on the pride people have in this state. The taglines “State of Mind” and “Colorado For Life” can be seen on billboards and advertisements in the area, and the Colorado flag can be seen on all our uniforms, on our field before the game, and in virtually everything we do.
Earlier this year we took our jerseys on a mini-caravan to some iconic Colorado locations to kick off the marketing campaign as well as #RapidsJersey week. Now that the weather has changed, we took to the road again for another shoot and also to show the jerseys in a new light. Here’s a sneak peek. Be on the lookout for more visuals and as usual #Colorado4Life.
As the Colorado weather jumps rapidly from winter to summer, back to winter for two days, then summer again, spring for three days and so forth, so do Coloradans in enjoying all of the outdoor activities that one of the sunshiniest states has to offer.
This past weekend, members of the Rapids front office kicked off another busy summer tradition of races and relays with the Cherry Creek Sneak, where the organization was a sponsor with activation in the finish line village. The staff participants in the 5k consisted of Marketing Director, Wayne Brant, Premium Sales and Service Manager, Kenzie Crow, Group Ticket Sales Manager Emily Kilcoyne, and myself representing Media Relations.
As the last place finisher of the group, I’m going to exercise my author's discretion and omit the individual times - if only for self-preservation. But for the competitive sake of the others who participated, the finishing order went as follows:
Shortly after crossing the finish line, Crow then split from the group to run another 5k with friends at the Graffiti Run. The event, a colorful tromp around Elitch Gardens, boasts a less competitive nature and a more festive one to get people outdoors and active.
With the first weekend of races gone, the upcoming schedule of ONECLUB participation includes the Bolder Boulder, the Tough Mudder, the Lookout Mountain Triathlon, the Evergreen Triathlon, and the Crescent Moon Triathlon. Rapids fans at each event should keep an eye out for friendly Rapids staff and in some cases our tent and inflatable soccer field.
On Sunday morning, members of the Colorado Rapids front office staff participated in the Evergreen Sprint Triathlon, where the Rapids also had a tent and street team present at the finish line village. The Rapids formed four relay teams of three people each to participate in the Sprint Triathlon, which consisted of a 750 meter swim in the Evergreen Lake, a 12 mile bike ride that ran alongside Bear Creek, and a three mile run through a mix of dirt roads and trails around the lake.
Rapids 1, made up of President Tim Hinchey (swim), Director of Media Relations David Lindholm (bike) and Marketing Manager Wayne Brant (run), finished first among the relay teams with an overall time of 1:21:06. Hinchey’s swim time of 10:06 was just a under minute shy of the triathlon champion, who finished the leg in 9:15.
Surrounded by beautiful scenery and perfect weather, the Rapids teams demonstrated their best ONECLUB spirit and cheered on the rest of the finishers before celebrating with lunch at a nearby restaurant. Looking forward to the next challenge!
The Rapids relay teams finished in the following order:
Rapids 1 – 1:21:06
Tim Hinchey (swim), David Lindholm (bike) and Wayne Brant (run)
Rapids 2 - 1:43:24
Chelsea Hedrick (swim), Kristen Sonsma (bike) and Emily Kilcoyne (run)
