Rapids on TV and Radio in 2014
TELEVISION: The Colorado Rapids and Altitude have announced the broadcast schedule and talent for the 2014 Rapids season, with a total of 30 matches on Altitude. Coverage begins on Saturday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. MT for the Rapids' season opener against New York Red Bulls, live on Altitude.
This season, Altitude will be broadcasting 30 live matches including 16 home and 14 away games. The Rapids’ broadcasts on Altitude will feature returning on-air talent, veteran English broadcaster, and journalist Richard Fleming on play-by-play duties, teaming up with Rapids legend Marcelo Balboa. Maya Starks will join Richard and Marcelo as the sideline reporter for all home Rapids broadcasts.
“We’re very excited to kick-off the 2014 Rapids season and again partner with Altitude Sports. This partnership allows us to provide our fans with great Rapids programming throughout the season,” said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. “We are thrilled to have Richard and Marcelo returning to call games after their success last season.”
Most live matches will include a special half-hour Rapids Kickoff pre-match show and all home games will feature a Rapids Locker Room Report post-match show. Julie Browman, Kyle Keefe, Blake Olson and Maya Starks will contribute regular reports throughout the season.
Rapids Report will provide the fans news updates and features on everything from Rapids players, game previews, and updates on youth soccer from around the state of Colorado. New shows will run several times in March, and will become a weekly fixture on Altitude starting in April and running through the end of the 2014 season.
RADIO: All 34 of the club’s 2014 regular season matches will be broadcast on Mile High Sports Radio FM 94.1 and www.MileHighSports.com. This season will mark the third straight year that the club’s English-language radio partner will be Mile High Sports.
“Mile High Sports has been a great partner for years, and they continue to show their commitment to the Rapids by airing all our matches live this season,” said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. “This is another platform to showcase the great broadcast team of Richard Fleming and Marcelo Balboa, and we look forward to hearing them on Mile High Sports Radio’s new station at FM 94.1 in Denver.”
"We couldn't be more thrilled to have the Rapids on Mile High Sports Radio again this season," said MHSR president James Merilatt. "We have become the 'Home of the Rapids,' which we are extending across all of our platforms – radio, magazine and online. And fans are flocking to the content."
The broadcasts on Mile High Sports Radio will feature a live simulcast from Altitude for matches that are being carried by the television network. Experienced English journalist and Rapids Director of Broadcasting Richard Fleming is again on play-by-play, with Rapids legend and World Cup veteran Marcelo Balboa doing color. When the Rapids feature on national television, Fleming and Balboa will call the game exclusively for Mile High Sports.
