Game Preview: Rapids at Chivas USA

Rapids Season Opener Friday, March 26 at Chivas USA

COMMERCE CITY, CO (March 23, 2010) - For the 12th time in their 15-year history, the Colorado Rapids will begin a new Major League Soccer season on the road, as they travel to The Home Depot Center to kickoff the 2010 season against Chivas USA on Friday, March 26.

Friday's match, which kicks off at 8:30pm MT, will be televised live locally in high definition on KWGN Channel 2. For details on the official Rapids Away Game Viewing Party, see the bottom of this page.

The Rapids are 2-10-2 all-time in season openers, though have won the first game of the year in two of three seasons. The 2010 season debut is a rematch of the 2009 opener for each team. In that match, Omar Cummings gave the Rapids the early lead but Chivas USA scored twice in the second half to claim the 2-1 win.

This will mark the 16th meeting between the Rapids and the Goats from California, with Colorado holding a 6-4-5 all-time record against Chivas USA since they entered the League in 2005.

In California, the Rapids are 4-4 against Chivas USA, and have split the last two match-ups between the two clubs at The Home Depot Center.

Chivas USA finished the 2009 season with a 13-11-6 record, good for third in the Western Conference. Their season ended with a loss to the LA Galaxy in the Western Conference Semifinal series.
