Home Opener: Rapids vs Chicago Preview

The Rapids Host the Chicago Fire on Sat. April 3 at 2 pm in '10 Home Opener

COMMERCE CITY, CO – The Colorado Rapids prepare to kick off their first home match of 2010 when they host the Chicago Fire this Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 2:00pm.  Last Friday night, the Colorado Rapids began their 2010 regular season with a 1-0 win over Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center thanks to an Omar Cummings goal in the 56th minute. It was the first time the team opened the season with a road win in team history. On Saturday, April 3, your Rapids kick off their 15th MLS campaign at home, and will look to go 2-0 to start a season for the first time in club history.

Quick Notes for Saturday's Opening Day:

• Colorado are 4-0-2 in their last six home openers, winning the last four by outscoring their opponents 11-3. In 2009, Omar Cummings' second half goal gave Colorado the 2-1 win over Kansas City.
• The Rapids' all-time record versus Chicago is 11-16-5, and 8-3-4 when playing them in Colorado. Chicago have posted a 3-1-1 record in the last five meetings, winning both meetings in 2009. Colorado are 1-1-1 versus the Fire at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
• Omar Cummings has scored three goals in two starts against Chicago, tying for the most goals he has scored against any opponent. He has now also scored three against Chivas USA.
• In the Rapids' season opener against Chivas USA, five players made their debuts in a Rapids uniform, including starting defenders Danny Earls and Marvell Wynne, and midfielder Jeff Larentowicz. In the second half, Wells Thompson and rookie draft pick Ross LaBeaux entered as substitutes for their first game with the Rapids.
• Also last Friday, Team Captain Pablo Mastroeni added to his franchise-most eight season opener appearances with his seventh opening day start.  • Midfielder Colin Clark made his first appearance for the Rapids since tearing his left ACL in August 2009.
• Chicago began their 2010 campaign with a 1-0 loss at the New York Red Bulls. The team has made a few roster changes since the end of 2009, including the addition of new head coach Carlos de los Cobos, Dutch forward Collins John, and goalkeeper Andrew Dystra, who replaced the veteran Jon Busch. Chicago have also had a few key losses, including the departure of midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco, defender Gonzalo Segares, and forward Chris Rolfe.
