Colorado Hosts the LA Galaxy on Wed., May 5 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park

COMMERCE CITY, CO - The Colorado Rapids return to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday, May 5 when they host the Western Conference leading Los Angeles Galaxy at 7:30 pm MT.

Colorado, currently 3-2-1 (10 points), are in second place in the West behind the leading Galaxy, which come in with an undefeated record of 5-0-1 (16 points).

QUICK NOTES:

-- Colorado are 1-0-1 at home in 2010 and currently on a seven-game undefeated streak at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, dating back to last season. The last loss the Rapids suffered at home was on August 1, 2009, 1-0 to the Columbus Crew.

-- The Los Angeles Galaxy have yet to lose this season, at home or on the road. On the two occasions they played as visitors, they came away with a 2-0 win at Houston and a 0-0 draw at Kansas City. All-time, Colorado are 20-26-6 against the LA Galaxy.

-- At home, the Rapids are 15-7-4 against LA. And at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Colorado are 3-0-1 against the Galaxy, outscoring them 9-1. The Galaxy have not won in Colorado in regular season play since July 13, 2002, a 3-1 win at Invesco Field at Mile High.

-- Colorado won the season series in 2009 with a 3-2 win in Los Angeles and a 1-1 draw at home. In the win, Conor Casey gave the Rapids a lead, then tied the game at 2-2 and scored the winner in the 84th minute to finish his hat trick. LA’s Landon Donovan salvaged a point for the visitors three weeks later by scoring the game-tying goal in the 82nd minute at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

-- Colorado also defeated the Galaxy in an Open Cup play-in game in 2009, winning on penalty kicks after a scoreless 120 minutes at the Home Depot Center last April.

-- Rapids defender Drew Moor has scored three of his six career goals against the LA Galaxy, all coming in his last six meetings while he was with Dallas. This will be his first appearance against LA as a member of the Rapids.

-- Midfielder Colin Clark has scored more goals against LA than against any other MLS team. He has 4 goals in 7 starts versus LA.Forward
Conor Casey has scored four goals in his five games against LA, including a hat trick on April 4, 2009 in a 3-2 Colorado victory in California.

-- Los Angeles is off to one of the best starts in MLS history. Forward Edson Buddle is off to the best scoring streak to start a year, having scored 9 goals in the team’s first six games. He has scored two goals in four of the five games in which they’ve scored.

-- LA returns a large core of the team that helped them advance to the 2009 MLS Cup championship game, including captain Landon Donovan who is back after completing an off-season loan to Everton of the English Premier League.

-- Other notable returning Galaxy veterans include: Eddie Lewis, Dema Kovalenko, Clint Mathis, Chris Klein, Jovan Kirovski, Donovan Ricketts, Todd Dunivant, Alan Gordon, Mike Magee, and Gregg Berhalter. They are joined by young players Omar Gonzales, Sean Franklin, Michael Stevens and off-season acquisition from Brazil’s Sao Paolo FC: Juninho, Leonardo, and Alex Cazumbra.

-- Midfielder David Beckham is out injured after rupturing his Achilles while on loan at AC Milan during the off-season.
