Entire Season Comes Down to Tonight's Match at Salt Lake!

COMMERCE CITY CO (ColoradoRapids.com) – For the third consectutive season your Rapids will enter their final regular season match of the year vs. their archrivals Real Salt Lake with a postseason berth on the line.
The Rapids' final match of the year takes place this Saturday October 24th at Rio Tinto Stadium. With a win the Rapids enter the playoffs. A loss or tie and Colorado would have to await the outcome of other matches around MLS to determine their postseason hopes. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm MT this Saturday and the match will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel. For details on the Rapids' official away-game viewing party see the bottom of this page.
Saturday's game will be the third straight season finale featuring your Rapids and Salt Lake going head to head. The final games of the previous two years have featured this same match-up with the distinction being both games were played at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Saturday's game will also be the final chance for Rapids striker Conor Casey to claim the MLS Golden Boot Award as the top goalscorer in the league. Casey needs 1 goal to tie current leader Jeff Cunningham of FC Dallas and 2 to surpass him for the uncontested title. For the full MLS Golden Boot standings click here.
This is the third and final match in the 2009 regular season series between the Rapids and Real with Colorado holding the edge in the series 1-0-1. The Rapids took the first game 2-0 on May 2nd at Dick's Sporting Goods Park and earned a valuable road point with a 1-1 draw on June 6 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
In the battle for the Rocky Mountain Cup annual tournament between the 2 sides the Rapids are in the lead. A win or draw will give them the trophy through the end of 2010 while Real would have to win by 2 or more goals in order to retain the trophy. The Rapids and Real both enter this game coming off losses last weekend. Colorado dropped a 2-1 decision at FC Dallas while Salt Lake lost a 1-0 contest at Toronto FC.
The Rapids (10-9-10 40 pts) currently occupying the #5 spot in the West will be looking for the full 3 points at Salt Lake on Saturday. A win will guarantee Colorado a playoff spot and a loss or tie means that the Rapids' fate will rest on the outcomes of other matches taking place around the league that day.
Salt Lake (10-12-7 37 pts) are looking up at Colorado in the standings and this is their last shot to make a final push into the playoff race coming from their current seventh place spot in the West. Anything less than a win and Real's season is over.
