The last two Mexican First Division Champions both clubs are currently rated among the best sides in Mexican soccer.
Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) the 2006 Mexican Apertura champions have established their club as the most recognized and devotedly supported team in Mexico. The club established in 1906 has won a total of 11 local championships including four in a row (1959-1962).
Continuing a long-lasting tradition Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara have conquered all of their national and international championships utilizing only Mexican-born players on their team giving the club status as the "second national team." Backing up that name Las Chivas currently feature Mexican National Team players Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista Omar Bravo Hector Reynoso Alberto Medina and Ramón Morales and rising star Carlos Vela. Chivas is established as a true feeder team for the Tricolores as the national team is affectionately known. In 2006 Mexico's World Cup roster featured six Chivas players.
Club de Fútbol Pachuca (Tuzos) may not be as well-known as thier oponents but recent form would indicate that reputation isn't everything. The Tuzos currently hold Mexican first division crown which they won in the 2007 Clausura the Copa Sudamericana where they beat Colo-Colo of Chile and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. In the Champions Cup Pachuca defeated Chivas de Guadalajara on penalties.
Pachuca was founded in 1901 by local miners. Since its inception Pachuca has conquered five Mexican First Division championships with the last one in the Clausura 2007 edition.
In contrast to Chivas Pachuca succeeds despite a lack of big-name talent. The Tuzuos currently feature players such as goalkeeper Miguel Calero Juan Carlos Cacho Luis Angel Landin Andres Chitiva Damian Alvarez and Gabriel Caballero.
Chivas and Pachuca are playing in group A of this year's Superliga along with MLS clubs FC Dallas and Los Angeles Galaxy.
