Match Preview: Rapids & New England Set to Clash This Saturday

COMMERCE CITY CO (ColoradoRapids.com) - Your Colorado Rapids travel to Gillette Stadium this Saturday May 16 to take on the New England Revolution for the first time this season.
Saturday's match kicks off at 5:30pm MT and will be televised in Colorado on Altitude Sports & Entertainment.
The Rapids will look to continue their historical good form vs. the Revolution as they are 16-11-5 all-time vs. New England in regular season competition. When playing in Foxborough the Rapids are 5-8-3 all-time and will look to build upon that record.
In the last meeting between these two sides the two sides played to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 20 of 2008 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Colorado are sitting on 11 points with a 3-2-2 record good for third place in the Western Conference. New England are currently 2-2-3 with 9 points and occupy the #5 spot in the East.
The Rapids are coming off a bye week and look to string together points in a third straight match (for a second time this season) following a 1-1 draw with LA on April 25 and 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake May 2.
Saturday’s match will be the first game of the season for Colorado on an artificial playing surface. The Rapids will play three of their next four road contests on artificial turf.
New England improved their record following a 1-1 draw with Chicago last weekend. The Revs’ entered the match riding a two-game losing streak as New England has not won since April 4. The Revolution currently sit last in the league in scoring with only six team goals.
In earning their first shutout win of the season last outing against Real Salt Lake the Rapids held RSL to zero shots on goal. Colorado is now second in MLS only allowing 61 total shots all season. In 2008 the Rapids finished with a league best opponent shot total giving up just 278 shots to their opponents all season.
Conor Casey still remains just one goal shy of Major League Soccer’s top spot with four goals on the year while Colin Clark and Omar Cummings are tied for fifth in MLS with three assists each.
