Match Preview: Rapids at Chivas This Saturday!

COMMERCE CITY CO (ColoradoRapids.com) - For the 11th time in their 14-year history the Colorado Rapids will begin a new Major League Soccer season on the road as they travel to the Home Depot Center to open the season with their match at Chivas USA this Saturday night.
Saturday's match kicks off at 8:30pm MT and the match will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel. For details on the official Rapids Away Game Viewing Party see the bottom of this page.
The Rapids are 2-9-2 all-time in season openers but are riding a two year streak of consecutive opening day victories.
Colorado have found recent success as the visiting team against Chivas USA claiming the last two meetings at The Home Depot Center with 2-1 wins on both Oct. 14 2007 and Oct. 19 2008.
Under the direction of new head coach Gary Smith whose interim tag was removed in November 2008 the Rapids will look to get back on track in 2009 and make a return to the postseason after missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in franchise history.
This will mark the 14th meeting between the Rapids and the Goats from California with Colorado holding a 5-4-4 all-time record against Chivas USA in four years of competition.
In California the Rapids are 4-3-0 and have won the last two match-up between the two clubs at The Home Depot Center.
Chivas USA finished the 2008 season with a 12-11-7 record good for second in the Western Conference. Their season ended with a semifinal playoff loss on aggregate goals to Real Salt Lake. The Red and White return forward Ante Razov who tied for the team lead with five goals last season and who has 10 goals and five assists in 25 career games against Colorado.
