MISCELLANEOUS TEAM NOTES:
The Match Up: The Rapids are 8-12-6 all-time against D.C. United and 6-5-2 at home against last year’s Supporters Shield winners. Colorado is riding a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) against United in the Mile High City including last year’s 2-1 victory where Jovan Kirovski and Niko Hernandez scored goals for the Rapids.

Rapids Ink Seven: The Colorado Rapids have signed seven players to contracts for the 2007 season. After trading for Zach Thornton’s rights in February the Rapids have now signed the former Chicago goalkeeper. Also added to the roster were Colin Clark and Daniel Wasson who are now senior developmental players. The final four players were Rapids 2007 draft picks Nico Colaluca John DiRaimondo Justin Hughes and Nick LaBrocca. Details of the signings were not released in accordance to league and team policies.
Colorado Venue Openers: The Rapids will look to continue the tradition of local teams winning the first events at their new homes. In 1995 the Rockies beat the Mets 11-9 in the first game ever at Coors Field. On October 13 1999 the Avalanche were the first team to play in the Pepsi Center as they defeated the Bruins 2-1. Finally in 2001 the Broncos defeated the Giants 31-20 in Invesco Field at Mile High’s first game.
Rapids In Season Openers: The 2007 Colorado Rapids are looking to do something no other Rapids club has done: win their season opener. For only the second time in team history the Rapids will be at home to kick off the season. Colorado is 0-9-2 in season openers with three of the losses coming in shootouts in 1997 and 1999. The only other season opener the Rapids have played at home was in 2002 against San Jose. Here’s a look at Rapids season openers:

There have been four players who have scored in their first game with the club and 11 players to record a goal in their second game. Chris Henderson scored a goal in the first game of his second stint with Colorado. Which man new to the team will join this list this year? First Game Scorers: Marcelo Balboa John Spencer Zizi Roberts and Jeff Cunningham. Second Game Scorers: Shaun Bartlett Wolde Harris Peter Vermes Marquis White Waldir Darren Sawatzky Junior Agogo Chris Carrieri Mark Chung Jean-Philippe Peguero and Daniel Wasson.
