Over 2000 attend Downtown Viewing Party
Denver, Colo. - Over 2000 fans filled the streets in downtown Denver on Saturday at the Colorado Rapids and The British Bulldog street viewing party for the United States versus England World Cup match, making a statement that the world's largest event would have quite the following in Colorado should the U.S. win its bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup. On a rainy morning, fans began arriving hours before the 12:30 pm kickoff, positioning themselves in front of the huge 14'X11' screen which the Rapids had brought in from California for the event. Fans filled Stout Street, between Broadway and 21st, which had been closed down for the viewing party.
Shortly after kickoff, estimates ranged between 2100 - 2500 people at the event. Click here to see the Denver Post's photo gallery of the event.
Other partners bars and many of area locations also had huge turnouts for the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Rapids and its partner bars and restaurants will continue hosting viewing parties for all the World Cup matches. Click here for more details.
