DENVER (May 31 2006) – The Colorado Rapids rode a goal from Dedi Ben-Dayan and a shutout from Bouna Coundoul to cruise to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday night. The victory was the Rapids' second straight triumph over the defending MLS champions in the last 11 days.

The shutout was Coundoul’s second straight against the Galaxy and his second in three starts. Bouna is now the #1-ranked goalkeeper in Major Leauge Soccer with a Goals-Against-Average of 0.77.
With the victory the Rapids extended the Galaxy's scoreless drought. The LA club's record scoreless streak now stands at 480 minutes -- just 77 minutes of the all-time MLS record set last year by expansion club Real Salt Lake. The 1-0 loss gave the Galaxy their fifth defeat in a row matching the club record set from Aug. 11-28 in the first-ever MLS season in 1996.
Terry Cooke had the first scoring chance of the evening when his 30-yard attempt went wide in the fourth minute.
The Rapids almost scored again through the foot of Dedi Ben-Dayan in the 16th minute. Eric Denton was given acres of space down the left side line and dribbled over half the field before cutting the ball back to the Israeli who shot high and wide.
Galaxy 'keeper Steve Cronin had to make his first save of the match in the 32nd minute. Ben-Dayan made a tackle to win the ball got up dribbled into the penalty area and unleashed a shot that Cronin tipped over the crossbar.
The Galaxy seemed impotent on offense for most of the game as they had very little midfield possession. When they did get the ball their only attacking idea seemed to be to send long balls forward to their streaking forwards who were often offside.
Ben-Dayan's efforts finally paid off as he scored his first goal of the season in the 33rd minute off of a corner kick. Cooke put in a ball to the far side of the six-yard box and the Israeli stuck his foot in front of Todd Dunivant and deflected the ball into the back of the net. Cooke’s assist was his sixth of the year and added to the Englishman’s league-leading total.
The Rapids kept up the constant pressure and the Galaxy were lucky to go into the locker rooms at halftime only down by one goal.
After the break despite being down a goal the Galaxy did little to greatly trouble the Rapids' back four. The home side had a great offensive sequence in the 57th minute when a monstrous Mike Petke tackle at midfield led to a quick pass from Clint Mathis to a streaking Jacob Peterson. But Peterson's shot was blocked by Galaxy center back Tyrone Marshall.
There was a brief moment of excitement in the 79th minute as Gomez went down hard clutching his side after charging at Rapids goalie Bouna Coundoul for a 50-50 ball. Petke took exception at what he thought was Gomez's bad acting which led to some jawing and pushing between the two players who both earned yellow cards for their efforts.
Coundoul made his biggest save in the 88th minute when a Galaxy corner kick was turned into a near own-goal as the ball bounced off Petke before Coundoul smothered it.
The Rapids have another short turnaround as they play in their third game in 11 days this Saturday June 3 when they travel to the Home Depot Center to take on Chivas USA.
