Rapids to Donate to Needy Iraqi Children

DENVER (ColoradoRapids.com) - The Colorado Rapids have teamed up with Newsradio 850 KOA to donate soccer balls to needy children in Iraq!

Listeners to KOA have heard Steffan Tubbs speak about his recent experiences being an embedded journalist in Iraq. On his trips over there he was touched by the children forced to survive in such harsh conditions.

When he asked American soldiers what was the one thing that Americans who wanted to help could send over to them to make a difference they responded that soccer balls were the #1 item they would pick to have sent! The soldiers said that soccer balls helped to brighten up the days of the children they interact with on a daily basis.

Due to these requests Steffan has created an effort to collect as many soccer balls as possible from Colorado to ship over directly to Iraq. The Rapids have partnered with Steffan and Newsradio 850 KOA to help out our soldiers and also bring a little enjoyment to these courageous kids!

As part of the partnership the Rapids have announced today that the club is donating 1200 Rapids soccer balls to Steffan's effort!

"The Colorado Rapids are excited to partner with KOA on this effort to aid the needy children of Iraq said Jeff Plush VP & Managing Director of the Rapids.

"Steffan Tubbs has put together a drive that is going to directly affect underserved children and at the same time give our American soldiers the chance to make a difference in the lives of the people they interact with every day. The Rapids are looking forward to donating resources to help this cause and partnering with KOA on this humanitarian effort."

The Rapids also encourage fans to do what they can to help! Here's what fans can do to assist the soccer ball drive:
