Posting season-highs with eight shots on goal and ten corner kicks Colorado displayed some of their best offensive attacking of the season. However despite finding the back of the net early the Rapids came away from their fifth road game in their first eight contests of the season with only one point to add to the standings.
Colorado came out to start the game as the aggressors and looked to be in good form coming back from a bye week. The Rapids had several early opportunities at goal in the opening minutes and were able to capitalize in the third minute on a Conor Casey header for the quick 1-0 advantage.
Jordan Harvey registered his second assist of the season sending a bending cross into the penalty area from the left side of the pitch. Casey was able to get a head on it from about nine yards out to lift it over the outstretched arms of New England goalkeeper Brad Knighton. The goal was Casey’s fifth of the year and keeps him among the league’s top scorers.
The Revolution were able to answer with a penalty kick equalizer in the 18th minute from Steve Ralston. Ralston’s goal was set up after he was fouled in the box by Ugo Ihemelu.
Rapids defender Cory Gibbs returned to the line-up for the first time since April 11 coming in as a halftime substitution for Kosuke Kimura. Gibbs had missed the team’s last three matches due to a groin injury.
The second half played much like the first with Colorado pressing the action but the Revs’ defense held firm as the game came to a conclusion with the score still locked at 1-1.
The Rapids return to Colorado next week to face the Seattle Sounders for the first time ever in MLS play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park at 7:30 pm MT.
