Rapids Fall 2-0 to FC Dallas
DENVER (Wednesday Aug. 30 2006) – The Colorado Rapids lost to FC Dallas 2-0 at Invesco Field at Mile High marking only the second time they have lost two games in a row this year.
Dallas took the lead in the 25th minute. A missed tackle in the midfield led to a break for Dallas who got the ball to Ronnie O’Brien. The Irishman put a ball into Ramon Nunez who scored his third goal against the Rapids this season with his head.
Dario Sala was saved by the woodwork in the 34th minute. Daniel Wasson made a run down the right side of the pitch and crossed a ball into Thiago Martins whose powerful shot bounced off the far post.
Sala made a sprawling catch in the 44th minute to stop a Jovan Kirovski cross and in the next minute he tried to run time off the clock as he sat with the ball at his feet.
Martins was denied by the goal again in the 48th minute. A Niko Hernandez corner kick found the Brazilian on the back post but his thundering header went off the crossbar and bounced away from the goal.
Richard Mulrooney put FC Dallas up 2-0 in the 57th minute with a shot that went in off the post.
Kirovski’s dangerous shot in the 66th minute went just wide and Clint Mathis’ in the 67th was stopped by Sala.
The next Rapids game will be the final battle for the 2006 Rocky Mountain Cup as Colorado takes on Real Salt Lake this Saturday September 2 at 7:00 p.m. MT in a game fans can watch live on Altitude Sports and Entertainment or at the official away-game viewing party at the British Bulldog.
