The loss at Invesco Field was the Rapids' first in their last 10 regular season home games. The last team to beat Colorado at home was the San Jose Earthquakes the team that moved to Houston in the offseason on July 20 2005 by a 2-1 scoreline.

Brian Ching put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute when he finished his own rebound. Ching jumped to meet a corner kick and headed the ball down toward goal. Joe Cannon dove to his right and stopped the initial shot but the rebound came back to Ching and he finished the play.

A dangerous corner kick in the 24th minute nearly saw the Rapids tie the score. Clint Mathis’ corner kick was fired in toward the far post where Dedi Ben-Dayan headed the ball but it went wide.

Mathis nearly was responsible for the Rapids' first goal again in the 32nd minute when his tremendous free kick took a wicked hop and Pat Onstad muffed the shot and it went over the goal for a corner kick.

Nicolas Hernandez had his shot at the tying goal in the 42nd minute off of a Terry Cooke corner. Mike Petke headed the ball on and the Argentine lunged to hit the ball strongly but it rebounded off the Dynamo goal post.

In the 67th minute the home team had another opportunity to pull even through the combination of the forwards. Hernandez dribbled into the box from the left side and hit a shot that Onstad parried away. Jovan Kirovski was on the doorstep to put the ball into the empty net but a Dynamo defender cleared the ball at the last second.

In the 75th minute Kirovski came close again as he struck the woodwork off of a free kick from 25 yards out.

Fort Collins Colorado native Colin Clark made his professional debut in the 77th minute when he came on for Dedi Ben-Dayan. Newly-acquired Thiago Martins also saw his first minutes in a Rapids uniform as he came on for Jovan Kirovskin in the 83rd minute.

Despite the Rapids' frantic efforts up front and their increasingly close chances coupled with their man advantage after Houston's Alejandro Moreno was ejected in the 86th minute they were unable to find the equalizer and the Dynamo were able to escape with a road win.
