Rapids Look to Claim Rocky Mountain Cup This Saturday

COMMERCE CITY COLO. (ColoradoRapids.com) - Your Colorado Rapids will make their first-ever trip to Rio Tinto Stadium this Saturday June 6 when they take on their Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Real Salt Lake.
The match will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel; kickoff is set for 8pm MT.
The Rapids are currently riding a five-game unbeaten streak while garnering points in eight of their last nine games. Colorado (4-2-2 16 pts.) sit 4th in the Western Conference while RSL (3-6-2 11 pts.) are 6th in the West.
The Rapids and Real Salt Lake will meet on Saturday for the 17th time with the Rapids holding an 8-5-3 all-time record against RSL in five years of competition. Colorado are 5-2-2 at home against the Utah side and 3-3-1 vs. them all-time on the road.
The Rapids took the first meeting this season 2-0 back on May 2 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park behind goals from Nick LaBrocca and the first career goal by Kosuke Kimura. These sides will met for a final time this year in the season finale on Oct. 24 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Saturday's match will go a long way in deciding which team will get their name inscribed on the trophy as champions of the Rocky Mountain Cup the annual competition between the Rapids and RSL. Colorado won the Rocky Mountain Cup during its first two years of competition in 2005 and 2006 but have seen the trophy go to RSL the last two seasons.
