Rapids Make it a Happy Holiday Season For Needy Kids
DENVER CO (12-16-04)- The Colorado Rapids held the club's 5th annual "Kicks for Kids" Holiday party last night which benefitted approximately 350 underserved kids as the team does every holiday season.
This year's event was at the WILDLIGHTS Exhibit at the Denver Zoo.
The 5th Annual Rapids Kicks for Kids Holiday Party featured the Rapids organization –including Rapids players Nat Borchers Chris Henderson Michael Erush and Ritchie Kotschau Rapids Assistant Coach Steve Trittschuh the Rapids Cheerleaders Rapids staff and RapidMan - along with approximately 350 local needy kids from special-needs schools and charitable organizations around the Denver area.
Some of the Rapids' Kicks for Kids benefitting organizations included: African Community Center ArtReach Catholic Charities Colorado Uplift Denver SCORES Co. Division of Youth Corrections Metro Denver Partners Renaissance Children’s Center Starlight Foundation Synergy Residential Program and Creative Options among others.
Presents were handed out along with complimentary food and drinks from Chick-Fil-A and free ice cream from Meadow Gold to all children present. The idea behind the Rapids Holiday Party is to give a hot meal and gifts to those kids who would not normally get either around this time of year.
After dinner this year’s visitors were able to experience the special WILDLIGHTS Exhibit that includes millions of twinkling lights hundreds of animated animal sculptures traditional holiday entertainment and fun-filled family activities all throughout the Zoo's animal exhibits.
TV stations Altitude and KUSA Channel 9 were on hand to film the kids mingling with the Rapids players RapidMan Rapids coaches and the Rapids Cheerleaders who signed autographs and passed out bags of presents from the Colorado Rapids!
The Rapids' "Kicks for Kids" community program benefits local underserved children through the integration of the sport of soccer and corporate donations. Admittance is always free every year for the program's beneficiaries!
