(Exclusive to ColoradoRapids.com) - It's that time of year again.......the MLS season has just ended autumn is in full swing and soccer fans of all ages are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving all across the nation this week.
Since it's traditional for everyone to take a moment to think about what they are truly thankful for each year as well as give thanks for those family and friends in their life ColoradoRapids.com was able to speak with a handful of the Rapids players coaches and management to ask them what they are truly thankful for this holiday season!
Here's their responses below in no particular order and all exclusive to ColoradoRapids.com:
Defender #13 Stephen Keel: "I am thankful for my family and friends and to have all of them in good health. I am thankful that my job is something I love and I get paid for it. Also I get to play in my home state where my family and friends can come out and watch live in person. Also thanks to the Cobras for a great season and making me into a better person and player! It has been a long up and down year in 2007 and I am especially thankful for all of the fans who have stuck with us and will continue to stick with us."
Forward #10 Herculez Gomez: "What am I thankful for this year? Honestly I'd have to say what I am most thankful for is my family and friends!"
Rapids Managing Director Jeff Plush: "I am first and foremost thankful for my wife and two beautiful daughters. I am thankful for the opportunity to work in a business that allows us to have a positive impact on kids and on our community. And I am very thankful for the support of our fans and of my staff as we set out to take what we want out of 2008."
Forward #26 Conor Casey: "This Thanksgiving I am thankful to be playing and living back here in my hometown of Denver and also to be able to be here at home for the holidays. I'm thankful to have my health and also for the health of my family and I'm looking forward to a great 2008."
Rapids Head Coach Fernando Clavij "I’m thankful this year again to have the continued support love and health of my family and I pray that those things will continue always."
Forward #14 Omar Cummings: "I’m thankful this year because the dream I’ve had of playing soccer at a professional level came true. I’m living here in Colorado I’m doing it and I’m living my dream so I’m very thankful for it."
Rapids General Manager Charlie Wright: "I am always thankful this time of year for the opportunity to spend time with friends and family – much more important than any good food we might enjoy. I am thankful of the diversity of the Rapids family and the opportunity to share cultural experiences with our front office technical staff and players. Since this will be my first Thanksgiving without any living parents I am very thankful for their lifelong love and support of my two sisters and me and of all of the wonderful Thanksgiving meals we shared together."
Defender #12 Mike Petke: "This Thanksgiving I’m thankful that I have a great family that loves and supports me. I’m also thankful that I’m alive and get to play soccer for a living."
Rapids Assistant Coach John Murphy: "I’m thankful for my family and for the opportunity to have a job I enjoy. I’m thankful to work in a great part of the country in such a beautiful place and to work around people who have such an active attitude. I’m also thankful for Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and to be able to work at such a fun venue that brings in teams like Celtic and Pachuca."
Defender #6 Brandon Prideaux: "I’m thankful for my family my wife and all my friends. Here in the United States we are truly lucky to have so much. So I’m thankful to have a home food on the table and everything else that goes along with it."
