Rapids Real Salt Lake Battle to Scoreless Draw in Las Vegas
Las Vegas Nevada (Saturday March 31 2007) – A 10-man Colorado Rapids squad held Real Salt Lake scoreless for a 0-0 tie in both team’s final preseason match in front of over 2000 fans in Las Vegas.
Nicolas Hernandez had the first scoring opportunity with a header in the seventh minute. Brandon Prideaux played a give-and-go with Jovan Kirovski before putting in a cross that Hernandez put over the bar.
The Argentine later had a shot on goal that was saved by Nick Rimando in the 11th minute after a nice cross by Herculez Gomez.
Gomez had the best chance for the Rapids in the 23rd minute. Eddie Pope shorted a back pass to Rimando and Gomez ran onto it but on his shot he hit the ground and it just dribbled back to the ‘keeper.
Freddy Adu had
Bouna Coundoul stopped the free kick attempt of Adu in the 25th minute as he dove to his right.
A long throw-in from Ugo Ihemelu was controlled by Roberto Brown who played a ball to Hernandez but the shot went just wide in the 30th minute.
First year Rapids player Greg Vanney snuffed out a 32nd minute chance for
A blast from Kline in the 35th minute was blocked by Coundoul but the Senegalese goalie couldn’t hold on to the ball. Pope rushed in and had a nearly empty net but shot it over the crossbar.
Brown headed a ball just wide of Rimando’s net in the next minute off of a free kick service from Vanney.
The Rapids went a man down when Brandon Prideaux received his second yellow of the night for a 58th minute tackle on Jeff Cunningham.
In second half stoppage time Kenny Cutler hit the woodwork of Coundoul’s goal after a pass from Adu.
