Rapids Record 5-1 Victory Over Boulder Rapids Reserve in Exhibition Match Tuesday Night
BOULDER CO (Colorado Rapids Media Relations) - Four players scored Tuesday night as the Colorado Rapids beat the PDL's Boulder Rapids Reserve 5-1 in front of more than 300 fans at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex.
Luchi Gonzalez scored a brace and Thiago Martins Dedi Ben-Dayan and former Boulder Rapids Reserve player Aaron King all added to the Rapids' tally.
The Rapids scored their first goal in the second minute when Martins drilled a loose ball into the back of the Rapids Reserve net.
Bouna Coundoul was forced to make his first save of the game in the seventh minute and did well to parry away a hard shot.
The Rapids struck for the second time in the ninth minute. Fabrice Noel kept the ball away from two BRR players and found Jacob Peterson on the wing. Peterson then crossed the ball to Ben-Dayan who headed the ball to the back post where Gonzalez buried it.
Gonzalez struck for the brace in the 29th minute with a rocket off of a pass from Peterson. The former Hoosier dribbled across the middle of the pitch and found Gonzalez on the right side of the penalty area who knocked it home.
Ben-Dayan collected a goal for himself in the 35th minute when he latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area and clinically finished it for the 4-0 lead.
During halftime current Rapids player and former member of the Boulder Rapids Reserve Colin Clark was honored for his two years of service with the team from Boulder.
Phillip Koshi got one back for the BRR in the 52nd minute when he received a ball in the center of the field wide open. The former Boulder High School player shot the ball past a helpless Coundoul to put the Reserve on the score sheet.
Substitutes King and Sasha Gotsmanov combined for the Rapids' fifth and final goal. In the 79th minute Gotsmanov unselfishly laid the ball off to King who scored into the open goal.
The Rapids return to league action this Saturday in Columbus in a game that can be seen on HDNet at 5:30 p.m. MDT.
