Rapids Reserves Cruise to 4-0 Victory Over Galaxy Reserves

Jose Cancela put the Rapids Reserves on the board in the eighth minute. The Uruguayan was fouled 30 yards from the goal. He took the ensuing free kick and snuck the ball inside the near post for the 1-0 lead.
Stephen Keel upped Colorado’s advantage to 2-0 in the 30th minute. Another Cancela free kick rebounded to Daniel Osorno. The Mexican lifted a ball to the far post where Keel headed home.
Justin Hughes making his first start for the Reserves had to make his first save 55 minutes into the game. The North Carolina product was forced to make a diving save on a Galaxy shot.
Nicolas Hernandez extended the Rapids Reserves’ lead in the next minute. Osorno again provided the service and the Argentine headed the ball in for the 3-0 lead.
Jacob Peterson closed the scoring in the 88th minute. Guest player Chris Lemons slid a ball behind the Galaxy Reserves’ defense that Peterson ran onto and calmly deposited behind Steve Cronin.
The Rapids Reserves will take on the Toronto FC Reserves in their next game which will be a doubleheader with the Rapids’ first team following their game vs. Toronto on Oct. 7 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The last time these two reserve sides met Colorado came away with a 3-2 victory north of the border.
