Rapids Reserves Defeated 2-3 In Exhibition Game Against Colorado Springs Blizzard

COLORADO SPRINGS (Colorado Rapids Media Relations) The Colorado Rapids Reserves fell to the Colorado Springs Blizzard PDL side 3-2 in an exhibition game Wednesday night at Sand Creek Stadium in Colorado Springs.

The Rapids Reserves came out strong and created their first scoring chance in the sixth minute. Jacob Peterson dribbled into the box but tripped and Fabrice Noel rushed in to finish the shot but the ball floated over the goal.

Luchi Gonzalez did finish on the next opportunity in the eighth minute. Gonzalez switched the field to Colin Clark who played an early cross to Vitorio Martini. Martini then chipped the ball back to Gonzalez’s head and he redirected the ball into the back of the net.

Aaron King had a chance in the 20th minute when he turned on a defender in the box. The ball came to his left foot but his shot went directly to the goalie.

Gonzalez went down just outside the middle of the box in the 22nd minute to draw a free kick but Daniel Wasson's shot went high. Gonzalez drew another penalty kick in the same spot in the 42nd minute but the Reserves couldn’t capitalize on it either.

After playing with three in the back in the first half Reserves Coach Steve Trittschuh came in and Clark dropped back to put four across the backline.

Steve Trittschuh put some heat on the Blizzard in the second half when he attempted to score off a header in the 50th minute but the ball ricocheted off Peterson’s head and drifted wide.

After a few minutes of pressure the Blizzard were able to equalize in the 58th minute. Colorado Springs then created a two-on-one in the 65th minute and scored to take the lead.

Peterson tried to tie the game up in the 79th minute when he ripped a shot from just inside the box but the ball went just over the goal.

The Blizzard scored to make it 3-1 with a shot from inside the box in the 82nd minute.

Gonzalez put the Rapids Reserves back within sight of a victory when he crossed the ball to an open Peterson who put it in the back of the net in the 84th minute. However the Reserves were unable to score again to equalize.

The Rapids Reserves have their next MLS Reserve Division game on July 9 against the Kansas City Wizards Reserves.
