Rapids Reserves Lose for First Time Since 2006

HOUSTON (Sunday May 11 2008) – The Colorado Rapids Reserves failed to secure at least a point for the first time in 13 games as they lost to the Houston Dynamo Reserves 4-0 at Robertson Stadium on Sunday morning.

The loss was Colorado’s worst in four years in the MLS Reserve Division but the day did see Conor Casey play 37 minutes as he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery.

Houston took an early 1-0 lead when Kyle Brown headed a Corey Ashe cross past Chris Sharpe at the near post in the 10th minute.

Colorado nearly tied the game off of the ensuing kickoff when Colin Clark found Mehdi Ballouchy at the top of the penalty area but the Moroccan’s shot went wide.

The Dynamo doubled their lead just five minutes later. Erik Ustruck took a throw-in from the right sideline and Brown knocked the ball down to an onrushing Nick Hatzke who was able to pick out the far post for the goal.

The Rapids Reserves had their chances at the end of the first half to get on the board but Dynamo goalkeeper Tony Caig made saves on Jose Burciaga Jr. and Ballouchy in the 23rd and 29th minutes respectively.

In the second half Houston added to their lead just four minutes in when Geoff Cameron unleashed a strong shot from the edge of the area that Sharpe did well to save but Brown was there to tap in the rebound for his second goal.

The Dynamo got a fourth goal when Ustruck fired in the rebound of a shot off the post in the 80th minute.

Cesar Zambrano gunning for his first reserve division goal had two opportunities in the 82nd minute. First his header was saved well by Caig as the goalie dove to his left and tipped the ball over. On the resulting corner kick Zambrano received a pass from Ballouchy but fired over the crossbar.
