Rapids Reserves Remain Undefeated After 3-2 Win in Toronto
Jose Cancela opened the scoring for the Rapids Reserves in the 13th minute after a period of sustained pressure from the Colorado side following a free kick. Cancela intercepted a Toronto FC clearance and drilled a shot into the top corner.
In the 36th minute Nico Colaluca doubled the Colorado advantage with a superb individual effort. After taking a pass from Nick LaBrocca 25 yards from goal he split two defenders and beat goalie David Monsalve to the near post.
The Toronto FC Reserves came out inspired in the second half and Miguel Canizalez scored a goal off a Christian Nunez pass to cut the lead to one in the 47th minute.
The Rapids Reserves added a needed insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Nico Colaluca fed a ball to Omar Cummings and the Jamaican scored his third goal for the Rapids Reserves to give Colorado a 3-1 lead.
The insurance goal was needed as Toronto marched down the field and scored their second goal a minute later through Andrea Lombardo to close the lead to one.
The final seven minutes plus stoppage time went by without a goal as the Rapids Reserves continued their undefeated march through the Reserve Division.
The Rapids Reserves will next meet the Columbus Crew Reserves in a doubleheader at Columbus Crew Stadium this Sunday Sept. 2 with each club’s first teams playing in the opener.
