Rapids Sign Striker David Castellanos

The University of Connecticut Standout Signs Multi-Year Deal With Rapids MLS

DENVER CO (03-30-04)- The Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of former Honduran First Division striker and University of Connecticut standout David Castellanos to a multi-year deal with Major League Soccer. Per MLS policy details of the contract were not made public.

Castellanos who will occupy a full roster spot arrived in Colorado after playing one season with Motagua of the Honduran First Division. He played two years at the UConn before signing with Motagua prior to the 2002/03 season. He helped the Huskies win their first National Championship in 2000 by tallying an assist in the College Cup Final as UConn knocked off Creighton 2-0.

Castellanos also finished the 2004 preseason as the Rapids’ leading scorer with four goals in ten games.

The 6-1 forward has represented the United States playing for the Under-20 and Under-17 national teams.

The Rapids will kick off the 2004 Major League Soccer regular season on Saturday April 3rd when they visit the Dallas Burn at the Cotton Bowl at 6:30 p.m. (MT)
