HOUSTON TX (Thursday June 7 2007)- The Colorado Rapids lost their second game in a row with a 2-1 result against the Houston Dynamo tonight in Texas.

The Rapids fell behind for the first time in the third minute. Joseph Ngwenya took a through pass from Chris Wondolowski and slipped it under an onrushing Bouna Coundoul for the first strike on the night.

Conor Casey earned a penalty kick in the 12th minute after he stole an errant ball from the Dynamo defense. After dribbling into the penalty area the SouthHigh School grad cut the ball back and was tripped by the arm of Eddie Robinson. Jose Cancela stepped up and put his penalty kick straight up the middle and into the net for his first goal in a Rapids kit.

Coundoul kept the game even with a near post save on a shot by Ngwenya in the 14th minute.

Zach Wells made his first save of the game in the 21st minute when he popped up a knuckling Herculez Gomez 30-yard blast.

Kyle Beckerman tested Wells again in the 22nd minute. Cancela made a run forward and found Beckerman at the top of the Dynamo penalty box. Last year’s co-leading scorer for the Rapids hit a shot but it was right at the Houston ‘keeper.

Because of a yellow card he received on a foul in the 35th minute Beckerman will miss the Rapids’ next MLS game on June 16 at Chivas USA.

In the 58th minute Herculez tried to repay Casey for his assist in last Saturday’s game as he brought a quick free kick down with his chest and slid it to his teammate. The Dynamo defense however got back just in time to put the ball out of bounds dangerously close to their own goal.

The Dynamo retook the lead in the 63rd minute when substitute Stuart Holden blasted a shot past Coundoul a minute after he was introduced into the game.

Coundoul kept the Rapids within a goal in the 78th minute when he dove to stop Kelly Gray’s first touch shot with a great acrobatic save.

On Sunday the Rapids will host the first of many international exhibitions at Dick’s SportingGoodsPark when they take on the Chinese National Team at 6 p.m. For ticketing information call (303) 825-GOAL or log onto www.TicketHorse.com
