Rapids Weekly Team Update

COMMERCE CITY CO (10/9/07) - With two games left to go in the MLS regular season your Colorado Rapids are still fighting for one of the last two playoff spots in the chase for the MLS Cup.

In their last match the Rapids were reduced to ten men just after the half-hour mark but a Jovan Kirovski penalty gave the Rapids the lead in the 43rd minute. Colorado would never relinquish that lead despite finishing the game with 9 men on the field.

This coming weekend the Rapids look to stay alive in the playoff hunt when they visit Chivas USA at 1 p.m. MT at the Home Depot Center. The Rapids cannot afford to do anything but win; with a tie they could still stay in playoff contention but would be forced to rely upon Chicago and Kansas City losing.

TODAY'S QUOTES FROM COACHING STAFF
Head Coach Fernando Clavijo on the effort of his team against Toront
"I can’t complain with the team's effort against Toronto. However the discipline is something we should do better. Pablo (Mastroeni) and Medhi (Ballouchy) need to do better. Both players are keys to our success and not having them against one of the hottest teams in the league is a letdown for us. Whoever steps onto the field (Sunday vs. Chivas) needs to perform and we need to get a result. We need to win games and put games away. Even though we beat Toronto we put ourselves in a tough spot earlier in the year."
WEEKLY TEAM NOTES
Playoff Scenarios: The Colorado Rapids are one of five teams fighting for the final two playoff spots. Currently the Kansas City Wizards and Chicago Fire hold those spots with the Rapids Columbus Crew and Los Angeles Galaxy on the outside looking in. Should the Wizards and Fire win on Saturday then Colorado would be eliminated. The Rapids also can not lose either of their last two games.
Reserve Champions: For the second straight year the Colorado Rapids Reserves are the MLS Reserve Division Champions. With are record of 7-0-3 the Rapids Reserves captured the crown with two games still to play. On Sunday night the team defeated the Toronto FC Reserves 3-0 behind goals from Jordan Harvey Jose Cancela and Nico Colaluca.
