Rapids Weekly Team Update

COMMERCE CITY CO (6/24/08) – The Colorado Rapids will train three days at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this week and once in Columbus as they prepare for their third road match during the month of June.
The players hit the ground running Tuesday at training under intense heat as Strength & Conditioning Coach Jamie Heiner pushed each player to their limit. Following some warm-up and agility drills the team was tested on 10 full length sprints of the pitch which had to each be completed in less than 30 seconds.
The Rapids finished up their first training session of the week with an 11v11 drill that focused on finishing in the box.
Colorado’s new Goalkeeper Coach David Kramer made his first appearance at Tuesday's session and had a small army of ‘keepers to work with. Bouna Coundoul who arrived in Denver yesterday was back with his teammates along side Preston Burpo Justin Hughes Chris Sharpe and Mike Graczyk.

TODAY'S QUOTE FROM TRAINING
Today's quote comes from Rapids Goalkeeper Coach David Kramer:
"I am excited to be back working with professionals and to be in this highly competitive environment. I am looking to bring some of my knowledge to the goalkeeping crew we have here and hope to share from my own personal experiences playing with the Rapids and in MLS to the group here in the locker room."
WEEKLY TEAM NOTES

The Return of Bouna Time!: Bouna Coundoul was back on the training pitch Tuesday and looked as though he had not missed a beat after missing the last four Rapids matches while with the Senegalese National Team. Coundoul will look to return to the starting 11 in the same place he made his MLS debut: Crew Stadium. Bouna first took the field for the Rapids coming in for an injured Joe Cannon back on May 13 2006. This season with Colorado he has posted a 1.20 GAA appearing in 9 matches with 4 shutouts. In four contests with the Lions of Teranga Coudoul did not see any match action.
The Secret to Success: One telling trend for the Rapids this season is finding the back of the net first. All five of Colorado’s victories this season have come when the Rapids score first. This will be very important for this weekend’s match as Columbus are 6-0 on the season when scoring first.
