Welcome The Colorado Rapids U-23's!
Commerce City CO- (Friday April 27 2007)- The Colorado Rapids announced today an enhanced partnership with the local USL club formerly known as the Boulder Rapids Reserve which as of today will be named the Rapids U-23.
"We are very happy to have the full support of a successful MLS team like the Rapids said Rapids U-23 Head Coach Peter Ambrose. "Being affiliated with our local professional club gives our players the opportunity to develop in a different environment and potentially be able to play one day for their first team."
The Rapids U-23’s will serve as a farm team allowing the Rapids organization to gain in-depth insight into their potential future draft picks. The team will now wear the same uniforms as the Colorado Rapids matching the burgundy and blue of the new jerseys worn by the MLS side. Additionally they will share a similarly designed logo.
The Rapids U-23 will remain an organization independently operated from the Colorado Rapids.
One of the most unique characteristics of the Colorado Rapids’ new partners is that starting this season the Rapids U-23’s have become the first carbon neutral soccer team in the world. It is tied in with a system in which all the carbon emissions produced by the team (coaches players etc.) during their daily events (driving cooking etc.) are offset by modes of carbon reduction (reforestation solar power wind power etc.). The team’s slogan for this season will be "Kick Global Warming."
The enhanced partnership between the clubs comes at a perfect time as the buzz surrounding both teams is at a peak. With the Rapids celebrating the opening of their new complex Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and the Colorado Rapids U-23 kicking off their 2007 USL Season.
