Rapids Sign First Round Draft Pick
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, April 14, 2011) – The Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of defender Eddie Ababio. Per club and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Ababio was selected by the Rapids in the first round (18th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. He played for the University of North Carolina, and concluded his collegiate career appearing in 89 games for the Tar Heels scoring 13 goals and adding 12 assists. In 2005 played for the U.S. Under-17 National Team and helped the squad earn a spot in the 2005 U-17 World Cup in Costa Rica.
The roster move gives the Rapids 28 players currently under contract. All MLS club’s first team rosters are comprised of up to 30 players who are all eligible for selection to each 18-player game day squad during the regular season and playoffs.
