Rapids lose Kimura, Moor, and Folan with injury
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, October 31, 2011) – Colorado Rapids players Kosuke Kimura, Drew Moor and Caleb Folan will all miss time after being injured in Sunday’s Eastern Conference Semifinal against Sporting Kansas City. All three players will be out for the second leg of the home-and-home series, which will be played on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. MT in Kansas City.
Defender Kosuke Kimura suffered a broken left foot on a sliding tackle by Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler in the 31st minute of the match. The injury, a broken third metatarsal, is expected to keep Kimura out for 4-6 weeks.
Drew Moor was injured just before halftime on a challenge by Sporting forward Teal Bunbury. Moor, who had not been substituted out of a match since September 20, 2007, attempted to continue but was forced to leave the game in the 60th minute due to a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder. He will miss 2-4 weeks while recovering.
Forward Caleb Folan sprained his left ankle and left knee in the 17th minute of the match after a foul by Kansas City defender Aurelin Collin, and will be out for approximately two weeks due to the injuries.
Kimura, Moor and Folan join Conor Casey (torn left Achilles tendon), Pablo Mastroeni (concussion), Anthony Wallace (right knee surgery) and Jamie Smith (torn right ACL) on the injured list for the Rapids. All but Folan started for the Rapids in the 2010 MLS Cup title game. Defender Tyrone Marshall will also miss the second leg of the Conference Semifinal due to suspension after he was issued a red card in Sunday evening’s match.
The Rapids will visit Sporting Kansas City in the second leg of the MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinal this Wednesday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. MT, with a live broadcast on FOX Soccer.
