Mastroeni and Pickens to participate in Movember

Colorado Rapids raise awareness for men's health issues this month

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Colorado Rapids captain Pablo Mastroeni and goalkeeper Matt Pickens will participate in Movember, a movement dedicated to raising awareness and funds throughout the month of November for men’s health issues, specifically cancers that affect men. Mastroeni and Pickens will grow mustaches and track progress on their www.Movember.com page (keywords: Pablo Mastroeni, Matt Pickens), where fans and supporters can donate money to the organization and see their progress throughout the month.

“It affects a lot of people in the world,” said Pickens about his personal reasons for participating in Movember, “and I want to make sure that I do my part. This is also a playoff beard, so I can’t take it totally off but I’ll do a nice landscaping job and start from there.”

Pickens and Mastroeni are modifying the rules to keep their playoff beards going; most people participating will start clean-shaven and grow their mustache from November 1 to 30. Chief Marketing Officer Tim Hinchey, Director of Sales Ossie Hamrick, and Director of Media Relations David Lindholm are also taking part. Pickens and the Rapids continue to defend the cup and take on Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night in Leg 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The match kicks off at 6:00 p.m. MT, aired live on FOX Soccer. The Colorado Rapids have information on viewing parties for the match available by clicking here, including an official party at the British Bulldog, located at 2052 Stout St. in downtown Denver.

The Eastern Conference Semifinal is a two-match series where the team with the most total goals at the end of both games advances to the Eastern Conference Championship. The Rapids fell 2-0 on Sunday night and must win by two goals to have a chance at advancing to the next round.
