U-18's O'Neill named High School All-American Game MVP

Two Academy players participated in 2011 High School All-American Soccer Game in Alabama

RAPIDS ACADEMY PARTNERS WITH WECMRD FIELD HOUSE TO HOST WINTER CLINICS: The Colorado Rapids Academy has partnered with WECMRD Field House at Edwards to host two indoor soccer clinics in early 2012. The clinics will be run by Colorado Rapids technical staff and open to young soccer players ages 9-13 on January 28 and February 25. BOULDER’S SHANE O’NEILL NAMED HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICAN GAME MVP: Rapids Under-18 players Shane O’Neill from Boulder and Karsten Hanlin from Greenwood Village participated in the 2011 High School All-American Soccer Game on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Birmingham, Ala. The pair, who have been involved in the Colorado Rapids Academy since 2009, were selected by a committee of high school coaches from across the country to play for the West team along with other top high school seniors through the country and defeated the East team 3-2. O’Neill was also named West Team MVP by the coaches after the match for being a “difference-maker every time he got the ball,” according to an article on ESPN.com. CORNELL DEFENDER PATRICK SLOGIC NAMED TO NORTHEAST REGION FIRST TEAM: Patrick Slogic, a former Rapids U-16 and U-18 player from Colorado Springs, was named to the Northeast Region First Team, as chosen by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The sophomore defender for Cornell, the alma mater of current Colorado Rapids defender Scott Palguta, played every minute this season, scoring three goals as part of a defense that led the Ivy League with just 13 goals allowed in 16 games. He was also the only player from the Ivy League to make the First Team.

RAPIDS U-16 AND U-18 TEAMS BREAK UNTIL MARCH: After completing the 2011 Development Academy Winter Showcase, the Colorado Rapids U-16 and U-18 teams will break until the 2011/12 season resumes in March. Both teams head into the break with a 3-0-2 record, and next face Classics Elite on Saturday, March 17 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
