A look at the Rapids roster on February 3
Commerce City, Colo. - With Friday's announcement that the Colorado Rapids and forward Caleb Folan have gone in different directions, we take a look at the current makeup of the roster as the team departs for the second part of preseason in California.
There are now 29 of 30 roster spots occupied and four of six international spots accounted for. The players currently on the 30-man roster are:
Goalkeepers: Matt PIckens, Steward Ceus, Ian Joyce
Defenders: Drew Moor, Tyrone Marshall, Marvell Wynne, Scott Palguta, Anthony Wallace, Eddie Ababio, Hunter Freeman, Kosuke Kimura,
Midfielders: Pablo Mastroeni, Jeff Larentowicz, Wells Thompson, Brian Mullan, Davy Armstrong, *Tony Cascio, Steven Emory, Jaime Castrillon, Joseph Nane, Jamie Smith, Ross LaBauex, Josh Janniere, *Kohei Yamada
Forwards: Omar Cummings, Mac Kandji, Conor Casey, Quincy Amarikwa, Andre Akpan
The four players that count as internationals are Janniere, Smith, Castrillon, and Yamada. Note that Cascio and Yamada, who were selected in the SuperDraft and Supplemental Drafts, respectively, were signed to Major League Soccer contracts prior to the drafts.
Teams are not required to be roster compliant until March 1. On on that date, teams may not have more than 30 roster players (who are eligible), be within the salary budget, and have no more international players than slots available.
