18s falls to North Carolina 4-2 in second match of group play

Rapids came back to draw at 2-2, but Fusion scored quickly to re-take the lead

The Rapids U-18s fell to the North Carolina Fusion in the second match 4-2 in Group 1 play of Academy Finals Week at the Houston Amateur Sports Park.

After falling behind 2-0, the Rapids came back to draw even with goals by Alex Braman and Daniel Nevarez in the 77th. However the Fusion came right back to re-take the lead two minutes later and put the game away with an injurance tally in the 90th.

Braman scored in the 71' when he followed up Chris Gurule’s initial shot that was deflected away by the Fusion defense.

Nevarez scored off of a deflection after North Carolina failed to clear a long pass and he got on the end of a shot that hit the left post and crossed the goal line.

The Fusion (1-1-0, 3 points) wraps up the group stage when it faces De Anza Force at 8 p.m. CT on Friday, July 20. The Rapids (0-1-1, 1 point) face Vancouver at 8 p.m. on Friday. Both games are at the Houston Amateur Sports Park.
