Rapids fans,

Welcome to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for tonight’s Rapids match against the Timbers! After a frustrating 1-0 loss in Portland on Friday night, the schedule gives us the chance to get immediate revenge, and we’re looking to leap back over the Timbers in the standings. What better way to do it than in a nationally televised game, with tonight’s match being broadcast on the NBC Sports Network!

The match tonight has a number of special elements that you’ll see before kickoff and at halftime. We’re celebrating “Colorado Heroes Night,” and are thrilled to welcome many local first responders and firefighters who have responded to tragedies in the state throughout the summer. Thanks in large part to the generosity of our fans (and the support of Kroenke Sports Charities) we were able to raise a lot of money for great causes, and we’ll be presenting a pair of organizations – the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation and the Denver Center for Crime Victims – with checks for $20,000 each.

Another part of “Colorado Heroes Night” involves welcoming many of the Colorado athletes who participated in the London Olympics earlier in the summer. Their athleticism, dedication and ability to perform under pressure are attributes that inspire so many of us, and we would like to thank them for representing our great state so well.

As for the team, we have just seven games left this regular season, and a lot of ground to cover in order to reach the playoffs. It has been a difficult couple months, and as we continue to look for ways to improve, we are excited to welcome midfielder Hendry Thomas to the team. He comes to us after three years in the English Premier League, has played in both the World Cup and the Beijing Olympics for the Honduran National Team, and made a solid debut last Friday night.

Once again, welcome to tonight’s match. Please join us in celebrating all of our Colorado Heroes, and in cheering on our Rapids to an important three points!

Come on you Rapids!
