Left back a question mark for season finale

With Wahl suspended, Zapata coming off injury, position unsettled for final game

Commerce City, Colo. -  Who will play left back for the Rapids in the season finale against Houston?

That is one question coach Oscar Pareja will have to decide this week during training.

Tyson Wahl, who started at left back in the 2-0 win over Chivas USA last Saturday, received his fifth yellow card of the season in the match and will have to serve an automatic one-game suspension Saturday.

Luis Zapata (above), who had played 27 of the 33 games at left back, sprained his left ankle the day before the team departed for Los Angeles and didn't make the trip.

Pareja has multiple options. One, is Drew Moor, the ironman defender who has played all over the backline this year and played mostly at left back in 2011.

Another possibility is Hunter Freeman, who started three games at left back in the middle of the season, although he has seen most of his minutes on the right side.

A third choice is recently acquired defender Chris Klute. The 22-year-old, who arrived in September from the Atlanta Silverbacks, has been on the 18-man game day roster for the last two matches and has rotated with Zapata and Wahl at left back in training for the last few weeks.

Saturday's match against the Houston Dynamo kicks off at 7 pm MT (Tickets).
