Final-day push doubles Rapids Movember donations
What a difference a day makes.
On November 29, when ColoradoRapids.com ran an update on the Rapids 2012 Movember team, the group of 18 had brought in over $1,200 as part of the national effort to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues.
However, due to a final push on the last day of fundraising, the 18 people on the Rapids team more than doubled that amount, bringing the final total to $2,665. The mustaches, which the Rapids 2012 Movember team grew throughout the month of November, had paid off.
The Rapids’ $2,665 was the sixth most among groups participating in Major League Soccer’s effort, trailing clubs Vancouver Whitecaps (#3) and Seattle Sounders (#5), as well as the league office (#4). The top team was Viking Army SC, a New York Red Bulls supporters group, trailed closely by a group representing EA Sports FIFA 13. More information can be found here.
Taking home the honors on the Rapids team was the club’s new Chief Revenue Officer, David Burke, whose fundraising total of $915 edged out club President Tim Hinchey ($725). In third place for the Rapids was Academy Director Brian Crookham, at $250. The Rapids’ Movember page, which is still accepting donations, can be found at http://us.movember.com/team/421449.
As of December 3, Major League Soccer’s Movember efforts in 2012 have raised $46,358, topping the 2011 effort. To date, globally over 1.1 million people have participated, raising $174 million USD.
