Commerce City, Colo. - Despite not yet finalizing a new contract with the Rapids, defender Marvell Wynne has chosen to continue talks on a new deal with the Colorado Rapids by opting out of Stage 1 of the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft, which will take place Friday, Dec. 7 at 1 pm MT. Hunter Freeman and Jamie Smith, however, will join six other Rapids players in testing the waters.

By opting out of the Re-Entry Draft, the speedy Wynne keeps Colorado as his top choice rather than risk another team plucking him. Freeman, Smith, as well as Conor Casey, Tyrone Marshall, Scott Palguta, Ian Joyce, Joseph Nane, and Tyson Wahl will all be available for selection during Friday's Stage 1.

The Rapids had previously announced that Casey, Marshall, Palguta, Joyce, Nane, and Wahl are not part of the club's plans for 2013, however that the club was looking to bring back Wynne, Freeman, and Smith. By entering the Re-Entry Draft, Freeman and Smith are exposed to being selected by another club at their current options.

If any player is not selected, they can continue negotiating new deals with their current clubs before Stage 2 takes place on December 14.

Clubs must exercise the option for, or extend a Bona Fide Offer to (out of contract), all players selected in Stage 1.  Players that were out of contract (Marshall and Palguta) may either accept or reject the Bona Fide Offer. Should a player reject the offer, the drafting club will hold the right of first refusal for that player in MLS. Players with option years left on their contract will automatically be added to the drafting club’s roster. COMPLETE RULES

Both Stage One and Stage Two drafts will be conducted in the same order as the traditional Waiver Draft, with Colorado holding the sixth pick.
