Deshorn Brown picked 6th overall

Deshorn Brown, a forward from Manchester, Jamaica, was selected 6th overall in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids on Thursday, Jan. 17. Brown is one of seven Generation adidas players in this year’s draft, and his salary will not count towards the Rapids’ budget, which is used to sign up to 20 players on the team’s 30-man roster.

As a six-foot-two striker at the University of Central Florida, Brown was named to the 2012 NSCAA All-South Region First Team, and the All-Conference USA First Team.  He scored 13 goals in 16 games in his lone season with UCF, having played the previous two years for the University of Mobile, where he was a two-time NAIA All-America First Team selection and led the conference in 2011 with 32 goals. In his sophomore year, Brown was named Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman.

Outside of his college career, Brown played for Premier Development League side Reading United AC of in 2012 and scored 13 goals in as many games, earning one of 11 spots on the2012 USL PDL All-League team.
