On Friday the Rapids acquired Danny Mwanga (above) - 2010's first overall SuperDraft pick - from the Portland Timbers in exchange for Colorado's top pick in the 2015 SuperDraft. When he makes his first appearance for the Rapids, he'll be 8th former top draft pick to play for Colorado.

From 1996-1999 the league held both a college draft and supplemental draft, which was used to select players that had previously played in other divisions or pro leagues. In 2001, the annual drafts were combined and renamed the MLS SuperDraft.

While only holding the top pick in the drafts once, Colorado has throughout the years acquired seven other former top picks. Here's a look at all of them:

Former #1 overall picks in the College / SuperDraft that have played for the Colorado Rapids:

1996: Matt McKeon - Drafted #1 by Kansas City out of St. Louis University. McKeon was acquired by Colorado from KC in exchange for Chris Henderson on November 19, 1998. It turned out to be a one year stint. After playing 28 games for Colorado, the Rapids sent him back to KC on Feb. 3, 2000 along with Peter Vermes and a draft pick for Scott Vermillion, an allocation, and the #20 pick in the 2000 draft.

1998: Leo Cullen - Drafted #1 by the Miami Fusion out of Maryland. After playing 3.5 seasons for Miami, and another 2.5 for New England, Cullen did not play in 2004. The Rapids acquired his rights from New England on Jan. 14, 2005. He played 15 matches for Colorado that year before retiring.

Carrieri only played five games for the Earthquakes before he was acquired by Colorado in exchange for Junio Agogo on June 13, 2001.
