Mastroeni's pulled hamstring likely to keep him out of weekend match
It's looking like Pablo Mastroeni will have to wait a little longer to go up against Real Salt Lake.
The team captain pulled his left hamstring just minutes into the home opener agaisnt Philadelphia on Sunday and had to come off. He was replaced by Nick LaBrocca in just the 8th minute of the match.
"It's nothing major," coach Oscar Pareja said of Mastroeni's injury Wednesday after training. "But with Pablo we know we have to push and slow down. I thought he had a great effort in Dallas paying 90 minutes. During the week he was feeling very good. It's one of those things that happen."
Mastroeni watched Wednesday's training session from the sidelines as he stretched on a workout ball. Pareja did not seem optimistic that the veteran midfielder would be available for Saturday's match in Utah (4 p.m., Altitude TV).
"We're going to wait for him," Pareja said. "He may not be part of the weekend game. We'll take our time with Pablo. No rush."
Mastroeni last faced RSL in a scoreless draw at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on October 14, 2011.
The Rapids and RSL meet twice more after Saturday, with both the April 6 and August 3 matches in Commerce City.
