Matchup Notes: Colorado vs Philadelphia on March 9

The Rapids are undefeated in five all-time meetings against the Union

The Colorado Rapids host the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, March 9 in the 2013 home opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park (4 pm MT, TICKETS). The Rapids opened the season with a 1-0 loss at FC Dallas on Saturday, while Philadelphia dropped their home and season opener to Sporting KC by a 3-1 score.

NOTES:

  • This will be the sixth meeting all-time between the two clubs, and third in Colorado, since the Union entered Major League Soccer as an expansion team in 2010.
  • Colorado has never lost to Philadelphia.
  • Of the 10 goals the Rapids have scored against the Union, six were scored in the first half and five in the second half. Nine different players have scored against Philadelphia (Omar Cummings once scored two).
  • All five of Philadelphia's goals against Colorado were scored in the first 30 minutes of the second half.
  • Newly acquired Rapids forward Danny Mwanga twice scored game-tying goals for the Union against Colorado (Aug. 14, 2010; June 4, 2010). Mwanga, acquired last Friday from Portland, has joined Colorado for training and is available for Saturday's match against the Union.
  • Former Colorado forward Conor Casey - the team's all-time leading scorer with 50 career goals - was acquired by Philadelphia in December's Re-Entry Draft. He made his first appearance for the Union as a substitute in the 84th minute on March 2.
  • Mwanga has never faced Philadelphia, while Casey has never played against Colorado.
  • Rapids second-year winger Tony Cascio scored his first career MLS goal against Philadelphia in his second professional match on March 18, 2012.
  • This is the only meeting between the two sides this year.
  • The Rapids are 11-2-4 all-time in their home opener and are riding a nine-game undefeated streak in the first home of the year.
