Matchday Welcome: Rapids host RSL

President Tim Hinchey welcomes fans back to Dick's Sporting Goods Park today at 5:30 pm

Rapids Fans,

I’m looking forward to beautiful weather for the beautiful game here at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for today’s match, the second Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup match of 2013 and a chance for our club to take a solid lead in the season series. It’s been too long since the Cup has lived here in Colorado, and our team is pushing as hard as they can to win it back! I want to thank all of you for coming out, including the members of Centennial 38, providing the passionate, loud and exciting atmosphere that makes these games unique.

While our squad is still dealing with a number of absences, it’s great to continue seeing the youngsters step up in a big way. Last week, rookie Dillon Powers scored an amazing goal from distance, while second year midfielder Tony Cascio earned a penalty kick. Our other impressive rookie, Deshorn Brown, will be looking for his second goal against RSL this season, and Homegrown Player Shane O’Neill looks to get a second straight start in central defense. Injuries to some of our veterans have given these guys opportunities, and I’m impressed with their poise and talent. More youngsters, including players from the Rapids Under-18 Team, will feature in the Reserve game, on the stadium field right after the main event tonight.

It’s also encouraging to see players like Martín Rivero and Jaime Castrillón getting closer to returning to full training after their surgeries. Check the video section of our website for a video of that duo juggling on our training field on Friday. Another one to give a look is our “Creepy” look at Real Salt Lake – we had fun making that and want to thank our staff that thought of it and put it together quickly. We’re pumped up for another chapter in this great rivalry tonight at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park! We also want to thank Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton for sponsoring the Rocky Mountain Cup and helping out with activities and giveaways in and around the stadium today.

As always, we’re proud to represent the state of Colorado and hope to do you proud. You may see our second “Scarf of the Month” around the stadium tonight – it has a Colorado flag theme and is available at any Altitude Authentics location for just $20.

Thanks again for coming out, and come on you Rapids!

Tim Hinchey
