Nathan Sturgis pleased with first Rapids goal and road result

Sturgis practiced corner kicks with Rivero during training

Colorado Rapids midfielder Nathan Sturgis after scoring his first Rapids goal in 1-1 draw at San Jose:

On his first goal in a Rapids uniform:

“I just tried to make a near post run and be in front of the front post man. I got a good ball my way and fortunately it went in.”

On the corner kick play and set pieces:

“Our coaches have given me a chance to go into the box on corners. This is something we’ve been working on in practice. Martin [Rivero] sent in a few good balls and I almost got my second goal off one of the corners.”

On the game:

“It’s a good result. Getting a point on the road is always good, especially against a team like San Jose. But being up 1-0 late in the game, it’s always disappointing to give up that tying goal. We knew we could have had the three points, but there are a lot of positives to take out of a game like this. We’ll head back home and look to correct what we missed.”

On San Jose's style of play:

“We had to adjust to them a bit. They threw in their big guys and played with four forwards. As a midfielder, we had to find a way to help our back four. We knew we had to adjust to what they were doing and that’s what it’s going to be like playing a team like San Jose.”
