Rapids U-16 Development Academy Team begins playoffs on June 25 in Texas

Rapids U16s to play teams from Baltimore, North Carolina, and New York in first-ever playoffs

The Colorado Rapids U-16 Development Academy Team will begin play in the 2012-13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs on Tuesday, June 25 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.

In the draw held last week, the Rapids were drawn into Group 2 (of eight) against three teams from the East Conference in the CASL Chelsea FC Academy,  Baltimore Bays Chelsea, and the Revolution Empire.

The U-16s qualified for the first-ever playoff appearance as a wild card after finishing the 2012-2013 season with a record of 16-8-3 (W-L-T) and in fifth place in the Frontier Division of the Central Conference.

The Rapids' first Playoff match is on Tuesday against CASL Chelsea FC at 5:15 p.m. CT. They'll then take on the Baltimore Bays Chelsea on Wed., June 26 at 7 p.m CT and close out group play on Friday, June 28 against the Revolution Empire (9:00 a.m. CT).

CASL Chelsea FC, from North Carolina, finished their season with a 17-6-2 record and atop the Southeast Division of the East. Baltimore finished at 19-4-2, good for second place in the Atlantic Division. The Revolution Empire, out of Western New York, also made the playoffs as a Wild Card seed after finishing in fifth place of the Northeast Division with a 12-8-2 record.

The teams that finish in first place in each of the eight groups will qualify for 2013 Finals Week from July 14-20 in Houston, Texas.
